I am a hypnotherapist, currently practicing in Los Altos, CA. I have to say that first because... you know... marketing and all. I also assist in teaching hypnotherapy at a new school called Healthy Hypnotherapy. In addition, I am currently a phychology graduate student at Argosy University, and expect to have my doctorate degree in about 2009, providing all goes well. Even though I'd like to build a private practice, I would most like to teach. I may teach psychology, but I'd be even more interested in teaching comparative or world religions. I got my undergrad degree in religion at UC Berkeley.
Other than my educational and career interests, I am a traveler. I've traveled to many countries in Europe, as well as Thailand, Mexico, and Canada. Europe is my favorite because I love European history - particularly medieval history of religion. There are so many great places in Europe but Rome is my favorite city I think...or is it Paris? I can never make up my mind.
Language goes along with travel. I love languages. I speak Spanish fluently, and can travel comfortably in Italy and France with my French and Italian, and maybe a little less comfortably in Gemany, Austria, and Switzerland with my German. Hey! German is a hard language(!), especially when my language background is in the Romance languages. I can read a very little bit of Latin, but I have plans to work on that.
I'm an amature historian. Actually, I wrote my thesis about certain aspects of Gnosticism. My background is in ancient and medieval history and religion. I also have some background in the renaissance and reformation period. Early reformation stuff fascinates me. After that Christianity takes a nose dive as far as my interest in it goes. I have a serious, serious(!) love for Christianity, but I am not Christian. However, I have no love for modern right wing fundamentalism - I find it simple idiocy without any redeeming qualities. Fundamentalist Christians don't even understand the Bible, much less anything about consciousness.
Politically, I'm a liberal. I've been called "left elite" by a fundamentalist, and that was the first time that I realized that I identified with that term. So yeah, I own that.
Oh, I am a huge, huge, Lord of the Rings fan. No, not the movie (though I do love that too), I have been a Tolkien fan for ...well... years! Many years! Over 20 years! I read The Hobbit when I was 12, and went on to LOTR, and have been a huge fan ever since.
Hmm, what else? I used to be a Rosicrucian. Now I'm just...well... I don't like to classify myself in terms of religion because I find the classification limiting. However, I follow the Western Mystery traditions, and that is as specific as I'm willing to get in terms of religious practices. I generally follow RJ Stewart, but am not limited by this.
What else? I like wine. OK, I like to pretend to be a real wine connoisseur, but I'll admit that I'm not. In fact, I know almost nothing about wine. I just like good wine - not the cheap stuff you can buy in a box or jug. I could say the same for cheese - good cheese, mostly imported cheese.
Well, I guess that's me in a nutshell. Oh yeah! I have cats! Two of them!
